Letter from the organizers

We are delighted to announce the launch of the 7th ABCF CONGRESS, which will take place in Florianópolis in 2024!

The plurality of scientific activities that we are planning for this edition of the Congress covers themes that represent the potential of pharmaceutical sciences in the scientific, technological and economic development of the country, based on national experiences and international relations.

Supported by the Sustainable Development Goals (particularly Goals 3 and 9), we are proposing major intersectoral debates, thematic sessions and conferences The potential for innovation in the healthcare sector is vast and promises to revolutionise the way we prevent, diagnose and treat diseases. With technological advances, the power of data analysis, insertion into healthcare systems and inter-professional collaborations, the healthcare sector is set to undergo a significant transformation in the coming years.

Pharmacists play a key role in promoting innovation in healthcare in all contexts. Their expertise in drug discovery and development, vaccines, patient accessibility, medication management responsibilities, collaborative nature, public health impact, technology adoption and contributions to continuity of care highlight their indispensable position in the healthcare sector. Their active involvement ensures the integration of innovative practices into the daily delivery of healthcare, leading to better patient outcomes, greater safety and global advances in healthcare.

In this way, the 2024 ABCF Congress will play a key and timely role on the national stage and in international relations for science, innovation and the social impact of the pharmaceutical sector. The series of ABCF congresses is consolidated with events that are increasingly gaining ground and recognition from professionals and researchers in the field of pharmacy, which is important for disseminating knowledge in the field to students, researchers, educators and pharmaceutical professionals, increasing the visibility of research carried out in the country and around the world.

The Brazilian Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (ABCF) was created from a movement of professors and researchers, mainly linked to postgraduate programmes, with a history of working towards the creation of the Pharmacy area at CAPES (1993) and the Pharmacy Advisory Committee at CNPq (1996 together with Medicine CA-MF and 2004 CA-FR). The discussions pointed to the need for a scientific society to represent the Pharmaceutical Sciences at different levels, in order to support researchers and add value to the area.

Previous Events

The Brazilian Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (ABCF) has been organising its Scientific Congress every two years since 2012. Previous editions have been held in the following cities:

  • 2012 Porto de Galinhas – PE
  • 2014 Búzios – RJ
  • 2016 Porto Alegre – RS
  • 2018 São Paulo – SP
  • 2020 virtual event due to the Covid-19 pandemic (25 hours of transmission, 703 registrants, more than 30 speakers and 374 papers presented)
  • 2022 Brasília – DF – 434 participants from 20 states and 7 countries. The congress received 190 scientific papers, which were presented in the form of posters and, of these papers, 21 oral communications during the thematic sessions.

In its six editions, the Congress has established itself as an event of national scope and international character, with a robust scientific programme involving professionals from industry, universities and public agents.

For the seventh edition, it is hoped to broaden the participation of stakeholders from the different sectors, promoting integration between the different areas of the pharmaceutical sciences and between academia, industry and public and private service sectors, as well as managers and regulatory agencies. An audience of more than 600 participants is expected at the Events Centre of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, under the coordination of two Postgraduate Programmes:

  • PPG in Pharmacy (PGFAR)
  • PPG in Pharmaceutical Services and Policies (PGASFAR) (headquarters in Florianópolis and hubs in 09 Universities).
